What is Cholecystectomy?
Cholecystectomy is a type of surgery performed on the gallbladder of men and women. In this surgery, your general surgeon will remove the gallbladder from your body.
Gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located below the liver. Gallbladder stores bile juice. This Gallbladder removal surgery is done when there happens to be gallstones in your gallbladder. Most of the time gallstones don’t cause any harm.
But when they cause pain, infection, or other digestive issues, gallstone treatment in Pune is necessary. There are different types of cholecystectomy surgeries available in Pune. This includes laparoscopic (minimally invasive), open cholecystectomy.
In some cases, radical cholecystectomy is done when cancer is suspected. Most people can live a normal, healthy life without a gallbladder, as bile flows directly from the liver to the small intestine after its removal.
Can you live without a gallbladder?
Yes, you can live without a gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small organ which is used to store bile juice. Bile is a fluid that helps digest fats. When you remove the gallbladder using a surgery called Cholecystectomy, your liver still produces bile but it flows directly into the small intestine.
So, instead of storing it in gallbladder, it is flown directly to the next organ where it is used. Most people live a normal, healthy life after gallbladder removal,. However, some people may experience minor digestive issues like bloating or diarrhea when they eat fatty meals.
When to Perform Cholecystectomy?

Acute or chronic inflammation of the gallbladder is diagnosed by your surgeon. This is caused due to blocked bile flow, often requiring urgent removal.Gallbladder Polyps
If polyps larger than 1 cm are found, removal is advised as they may turn cancerous.Gallstone Pancreatitis
When gallstones block the pancreatic duct, causing pancreatitis, cholecystectomy is done to prevent recurrence. This is also called as Gallstone treatment.Gallbladder Infection or Pus (Empyema)
Infected gallbladder with pus formation needs immediate surgery to avoid serious complications.
